.
Open the Story Creation tool. For this, tap the "+" icon you see on your profile photo at the top of your Instagram home feed. Or press the "+" icon at the bottom banner of the home page. You can also swipe right on your home feed.
Make sure your ‘Story’ option is selected and not the other options like ‘Post’, ‘Reel’ or ‘Live’. Then, you can either live-record your video or upload a pre-recorded video from your ‘Recent’ media folder.
To record live, press and hold down the white circle at the bottom. When the recording starts, you can see a thin colourful line that slowly forms around the white circle. This line reaches a full circle if you keep pressing for 60 seconds. After that, Instagram will automatically stop recording.
To upload a pre-recorded video from your camera roll, click the video of your choice from the ‘Recents’ folder or any folder which has the video you want to put as Story. The length of the video is mentioned at the bottom right of each video. Make your selection. If it's longer than 60 seconds, Instagram will automatically cut the video at exactly 60 seconds.

Q1. Why do Instagram Stories cut off?
Instagram used to allow only 15-second Story segments. So if you uploaded a longer video, the app would automatically split it into smaller clips. This helped Stories load faster and fit Instagram's old format. But now, you can post up to 60 seconds in one go: no cuts! This is as long as your app is updated.
Q2. How do I repost a 60-second Story on Instagram?
If it’s your own Story, just go to your archive and click ‘Share Again’. If it’s someone else’s and they’ve tagged you, you’ll see the option in your DMs saying ‘Add to Your Story’.
Q3. How do I post a video longer than 60 seconds on Instagram?
You can’t post Stories longer than 60 seconds, but you can upload longer videos as ‘Reels’. Reels now support up to 90 seconds or more in some cases.
Q4. Can you see who views your Instagram Stories?
Yes! Just open your Story and swipe up. You’ll see the list of people who viewed it.
