Born on August 16, 1831, in Manekhedi village, Seoni, into the Lodhi family, Avantibai rose from the daughter of a landowner to the Queen of Ramgarh after marrying Prince Vikramaditya Singh Lodhi. Following the death of her husband Raja Lakshman Singh in 1850 and the ill-health of Rajkumar Vikramaditya, Avantibai took the reins of the kingdom while repelling British attempts to seize control. Despite facing defeats and resorting to guerrilla warfare, her ultimate sacrifice by self-immolation on March 20, 1858, marks her as a hero remembered in local songs and stories. Today, her legacy continues with monuments and memorials, celebrating her undying spirit of freedom.
