Hampi, once the glorious capital of the Vijayanagara Empire, was one of the richest and most powerful cities in the world. Built in the 14th century along the Tungabhadra River, it was filled with grand temples, bustling markets, stone chariots, palaces, and advanced architecture that amazed foreign travelers.

During its golden age under King Krishnadevaraya, Hampi shone with wealth, culture, and innovation—diamonds were sold openly in markets, and the city was protected by massive stone fortifications and natural rocky landscapes.

But in 1565, after the Battle of Talikota, the city was attacked, burned, and abandoned. Today, its ruins still stand across miles of surreal boulder-filled terrain, creating one of the most mysterious and breathtaking archaeological sites in India—a silent reminder of a golden empire lost to time.
