India’s space journey began in 1963 with the first rocket launch from Thumba. Built with parts carried on bicycles and bullock carts, the small rocket flew for only a few minutes — but it marked India’s entry into the space age. That humble beginning laid the foundation for ISRO and future missions like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan.

Discover the inspiring story of India's first rocket launch in the 1960s, a time when the newly independent nation had no space stations or rocket launching pads but a vision to reach the stars. This episode of History Express on the Seekho App delves into how a small team of scientists, led by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, transformed a quaint village church in Thumba, Kerala, into India’s first space research center using basic transportation like bicycles and bullock carts for rocket parts. Witness the humble beginnings that led to the formation of ISRO and set India on a path to space exploration, eventually leading to ambitious missions like Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan. Join us in celebrating the journey from a simple church to planning a space station and preparing for missions like Gaganyaan and Aditya.
